On Tuesday, July 27th, the second day of the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament happened. The United States team won because it had six wins in a row before this game. They played their first game against Nigeria and they won 81-72. The Belgium team beat Australia.
Nigeriaâs co-ed Junior National Team Basketball team has a six match losing streak over the span of three days, with each loss being to a different opponent. Nigeria took turns losing to Belgium (47-79), Spain (52-61), then Belgium again (60-67) and USA (62-93). Before the start of this negative streak, Nigeria secured two victories on their home continent: First defeating Puerto Rico in 49 points using an eleven point margin of victory and they also handled Serbia in 62 points using a nine point margin of victory.
Despite being below the highest level overall, the Nigerian team has quite agile players. And against some teams that are in its natural data inferior, Nigeria can shine. We now have a game against Americans; prospects are not good.
The USA beat Nigeria in their final pre-Olympic game. They did it well and rarely lose. The USA team has only lost one game in their past 17 games, a 67-70 loss to Australia.
The visiting team is very strong. The American squad, even with our less-than-optimal team, can easily outplay Nigeria. That was the case a few days ago, and that may still be the case in the first round of the Olympics. In terms of shooting and tactics, we’re much stronger than they are.
The USA’s 15 time Olympic gold medalists unexpectedly lost their opening game in Tokyo 2020. The USA was defeated by France, 76-83. Frenchman Evan Fournier contributed 28 points to the French team while Jrue Holiday provided 18 points for the USA.
The US has not lost in an Olympics basketball game since 1992, when it won the bronze.
The USA women’s national team won the first round match against Nigeria. The final score was 81-72. In the next round, they will play Japan on July 30th and Nigeria will play France on the same day.
